Lee Roy Selmon has a history that combines family scholarship football with volunteer work in the community. One of the first things he did is to help the Selmon family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids in a Eufala farm. In second football, he was one of three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. Three brothers all made All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the best lineman of the US. In three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. The team also took home 2 national titles. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned a degree as a teacher. Lee Roy spent ten hours every week in volunteer work in his college days. After graduation, he landed in Tampa played nine years with the Buccaneers was all-pro three times and started his business career. By 1988, he became an Account Relation Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. He was no surprise that the year 1982 was when the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy among the top 10 outstanding youngsters across the nation. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch higher and weighing in at the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was player, commanded his team during the season of 1975. In 1993, he was named assistant director of the University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. His parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon Sr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma gave it to them.
